One of the most active drug rings on the island of Ibiza in the Balearic islands, has been broken.

Twenty five people have been arrested and 20 of them are British. The Serious and Organised Crime Squad and the Guardia Civil were both involved in the arrests.

Twelve houses were searched and large quantities of drugs and cash were found.T%he investigation began last September when the police cracked another drug ring on the island.

Using information from those arrests led to the arrest of this gang. The people in this gang have been under surveillance for some time. The big bosses from the UK visited the island very regularly.Luxury villas and apartments were rented for those involved at the different levels of the organisation.

Young British tourists were used to carry drugs through in their luggage. In August a young British woman was caught carrying 3kilos of cocaine.

This is a lucrative business and unless the big bosses have been arrested then it will just continue and grow.People seem prepared to take the risk.

This is a radio station aimed at the English speaking community on the Costa Blanca. The presenter Pauline M;cGough is back too.She took the lead in OCI´s Prime Time Show for 5 years.

Now she is back on 94.6 FM from Monday september 6 with a daily show from 3pm to 4pm Mondays to Fridays .

Pauline has been on the Costa Blanca since 1990 and is able to reach out to a huge audience on issues which affect expats.

There is a hope that this small beginning will see a return to full OCI programming.

This hour long show will be full of local news, interviews, local weather, markets and news from around the town halls.

Pauline also has to sell advertising ,which she has never done before but it is a necessary evil for modern day programming.

There will be a full sized football pitch as well as a seven a side pitch which will have an all weather surface. There will be six changing rooms,a cafe, facilities for the disabled,a carpark and a green area.

The project has been started because there is a huge demand for sporting facilities. and what the area has is in a state of poor repair.

The aim is to have it completed by Christmas so that all residents and youngsters are able to enjoy it.

Funding has come from the State Fund for Employment and the Investment Plan in Productive Municipalities.

The ship was welcomed home by a lot of top brass such as Chief of Staff Jose Rodriguez,Chief of Navy Staff Manuel rebollo and Fleet Admiral Juan Carlos Muñoz-Delgado plus the Minister for defence Carme Chacon.

The Victoria took part in a liberation of two merchant ships and escorted 10 other vessels from the World Food programme.

This is the Spanish contribution to the EU operation to tackle piracy and it includes the patrol boat Infanta Cristina,a maritime patrol aeroplane and the amphibious assault ship Galicia, currently sailing towards the Indian Ocean.

There were over 200 personnel on board the Victoria and their work together with the work of other allied countries has permitted 85 criminal gangs to be broken up,this involved more than 1000 pirates. This is five times the number of pirates arrested in 2009.

ECIS is the parking contractor who took on the underground carparks in Javea´s Old Town. The company constructed the carparks in return for the contract to run them.

The scheme didn´t work out as nobody uses them and consequently ECIS has not made any money. Now they are seeking compensation of 22 million euros from the council.

The company maintains that it is entitled to tax payers money as occupancy of the carparks has fallen below 85%.In reality both carparks only reached 17% and 22% respectively over their first year in operation.

The town hall had calculated on a 1.8 million euro underperformance payment, not this whopping amount. In fact the council has already won a type of judicial review which goes in favour of the tax payer.

They viewed the whole scheme as anything but a commercial enterprise. In fact many believe that ECIS has done little to to make the carparks work commercially.

Other similar carparking seems to work in other towns and maybe ECIS needs to learn from other towns and just get it to be a profitable scheme.

Some think that the company is bluffing and that the company has little on its side to force the issue.Time will tell.

Officers were called to an address in El Galen. When the police arrived they discovered the 26 year old brandishing an iron chair and threatening to kill everyone inside. He also banged on the front door and the windows.

The officers requested him to stop but he just legged it through fences of adjoining properties. However he returned with an iron bar and continued to damage a door and a window.

He threatened and attempted to injure officers by throwing a chair in their direction.Eventually the police overwhelmed him and arrested him.He has been denounced by the home owner who will now claim damages from him.

Torrevieja Natural History Museum will benefit eventually from what is thought to have been a tragic accident.

The head of a baby sperm whale was discovered floating in the sea off Torrevieja. It is thought that the marine mammal was the victim of a propeller from a large boat which had sliced the head off.

The remains of the animal were removed from the sea and taken to the Natural History Museum where the head was buried in a marked grave. The reason for this is to allow all of the flesh on the head to decay.Eventually only the bones will be left. The head will then be prepared and presented as an exhibit for the museum.

Last June a full size specimen was washed up onto a Torrevieja beach .This took a great deal more effort to remove to the museum, where it was examined.

Hundreds of people eventually turned up on the beach to watch the municipal workers remove the head.

Belgian police have arrested, together with the Spanish Guardia Civil,an ETA suspect. The effort was a joint one and the suspect is Luis Maria Zengotitabengoa Fernandez.

The arrest took place in the Belgian town of Ostend in the early hours of the morning.

A European arrest warrant had been issued by the Spanish National Court for the 29 year old Fernandez who comes from Durango ( Biscay).

The alleged involvement of this man with ETA revolves around the transport of explosives for the illegal group. The materials were transported to Portugal earlier this year.

He had an involvement with a property in Portugal where 1500 kilos of materials for the manufacture of explosives were stored.

Fernandez appears on a Guardia Civil list of “Most Wanted” men in ETA.It is alleged that he supported the outlawed group.

During 2010 67 people have been arrested because of their alleged involvement with the terrorist organisation. Many have been arrested with the help of foreign police forces.
